Keep away from alcohol and shellac!, September 1, 2010 By This review is from: Earlex HV3500 Spray Station HVLP Sprayer (Tools & Home Improvement) The clear plastic seals on the needles don't hold up to alcohol. I purchased this HVLP system for the express purpose of spraying shellac with it. I brought it home and used it with some tinted, 1.5 lb. cut shellac, with good results. After I was done, I cleaned the gun as per the instructions - put alcohol in the cup, sprayed for a few seconds, then cleaned everything with warm soapy water. The next day, I reassembled the gun and prepared to spray a second coat. As soon as I flipped the power switch, shellac started leaking out from under the gun, around the trigger area, making a mess on my shop floor. I immediately stopped, cleaned everything, carefully reassembled the gun and tested things again with water - same leak.
So I called Earlex support, who diagnosed the problem as a bad gun and sent me a replacement. The problem was still there with the new gun, so we came to the conclusion that my needle's plastic seal must have been defective. They sent me a new needle and... Read more

ALmost useful., September 2, 2010 By This review is from: Earlex HV3500 Spray Station HVLP Sprayer (Tools & Home Improvement) The Earlex 3500 is easy to set up, easy to clean and can apply a beautiful coat of finish. The first time I used it, the finish applied was great. The next time I used it, it leaked finish out of the handle like a waterfall. I called support and they were very helpful and sent me a new needle. Examination of the needle clearly showed that the plastic seal on the end of the needle was the problem. I tried to buy a set of replacement seals but I was informed they are not available separately. I now remove the needle after each use and carefully put it in its box. Still after just a couple of months I now have four needles that will no longer work because of the seal. This is a serious defect and makes an otherwise good product almost useless.
Update: Now that I have used the Earlex 3500 for a while and have two of them I can confirm it is useless. Both are sitting on a shelf and I am using other hvlp equipment. I can not keep the spray gun from leaking lacquer in large... Read more

Earlex Spray Station 3500 HVLP, September 6, 2010 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Earlex HV3500 Spray Station HVLP Sprayer (Tools & Home Improvement) Pros: clear instructions, easy to use, easy clean up
Cons: hose should be longer maybe 15 feet at 9 feet keeping it as far away as possible the filter on the bottom was completely covered with paint. Do not follow the direction for cleaning the machine. I sprayed the water into a bucket like the directions said. It is the only time I got spray back from the machine my face was covered my shirt was covered etc. rolling with laughter.
I sprayed a 10' x 12' shed floor with Kilz premium primer figuring it was probably the toughest product for the machine. It was quick and came out nice.
